Krystal of Kozy Kaps Co.

I’m Krystal, the owner and maker behind Kozy Kaps Co. I'm a wife and mama who loves all things warm and cozy.
Most of my career life has been spent working for a local school board with children with autism. While I love my career, my heart also belongs to my maker life where I can create all the warm and cozy things!
I learned how to knit and crochet when I was just 8 years old. My very special great aunt taught me the basic skills – and by basic I mean I followed a pattern and crocheted a piglet pillow as my very first project!! I was a quick learner and I had a wonderful teacher. I’ve had a passion for knitting and crochet ever since.
I first began my business Kozy Kaps Co. while I was on maternity leave with my second daughter in 2010, making crochet hats for my own children. My friends and family loved the hats so much they began asking me to make some for them and their children. My confidence quickly grew from there, and I soon started a website to take online orders and ship worldwide. At that point, I really just made hats for babies and children. I even specialized in making knit photography props for newborn photographers. In fact, Kozy Kaps was once featured in the December 2011 issue of Canadian Family magazine, along with a photo of an adorable baby modelling a "kozy kap"!
In the years since, I’ve transitioned into making more modern knits for the whole family including Canadian style toques, headbands, cowls, mittens, baby booties and bonnets.
I am a one woman show! All of my items are completely handmade by me and I have recently started making my own faux fur pompoms to attach to the toques. Every once in awhile I try to convince my husband to let me teach him how to knit so he can help me out. Wish me luck with that one! I’ve also taught my older daughters how to knit and I hope to recruit them to work with me in the near future.
The absolute best part of being a maker is receiving thank you messages from customers, along with photos of their families wearing their Kozy Kaps knitwear. It is so rewarding to hear that others have a love for handmade knitwear like I do!
Every piece truly is made with love!
